Course Development & Instruction - University of Washington Communication Leadership Program

I teach a graduate-level course within UW’s Communication Leadership program focused on wellness narratives. The goal of this course is for students to better understand the historical, cultural, economic and technological foundations of wellness as it relates to the media we each consume and view each day. As communications professionals, this course will challenge us to consider our roles in creating wellness content – whether you work directly in the wellness industry or not — and how this impacts people’s lives.

The course ultimately provides a brief cultural and historical overview of the ways technology, wellness, and advertising share a fascinating history. Students learn to look to the past to help understand the future, especially when thinking through emerging technology narratives.

UW’s Communication Leadership program is a graduate level masters program with coursework focused on building out a holistic set of 21st century communication skills. Students learn marketing fundamentals, content strategy, editing and writing, UX fundamentals, and an array of digital communication skills and methods. The program does a great job balancing technical know-how with theory and practice.
